The Scranton Sesquicentennial planning committee is hard at work as the celebration is just a bit more than two months away. Everyone is invited to celebrate with the Scranton community on Saturday, June 29.
Breakfast with the Mayor starts the day off at 8:30 am at the Community Center, courtesy of Scranton Manufacturing, Inc.
The Scranton Sesqui parade is scheduled to begin at 10:30 am, departing from the east side of the Community Center, heading north, then west and finally coming south down Main Street. If you have a parade entry, you can find the participation form online at https://www.scrantonsesqui2019.com/, or you can register for the parade by filling out a form at City Hall.
Are YOU a person from the Scranton area with a long-standing Scranton address? You might qualify as one of the grand marshals for the parade. Enter your name at City Hall if you are one of the eldest folks around Scranton. Food will be available on-site for the noon meal. Plans are still being finalized, but several choices will be available.
Most of the afternoon events will run from noon to 4 p.m. An open carnival for children with inflatables and games will be located near the Methodist Church. Motorcycles, tractors, and cars will be displayed near the Community Center for your inspection and voting.
Other events in the afternoon include a chain saw artist, kids’ tractor pedal pull, a crafters’ vendor show, an art show, fashion show, quilting talk, face painting, an historical scavenger hunt, frozen T-shirt contest, and beard contest (with shaving permits for sale as well).
A special late afternoon event is being organized by long-time Scranton School vocal music teacher Robert Reck and his wife Cathie. A Scranton play and alumni chorus event will be held in the Community Center gymnasium starting at 4:15 pm. Music featured will be from John and Sharon Richardson of Coon Rapids.

The sesqui celebration has an enjoyable adult feature starting at noon and continuing into the evening. The adult beverage tent will begin serving at noon. The DJ will play from 7 to 9 pm.
Events are all free to attend.
